What is Brahma Muhurta?
Brahma Muhurta, often written Brahma Muhurat, is the quiet stretch of time before sunrise. In Hindu and yogic tradition it is held as the gentlest hour of the day for prayer, chanting and sitting still. The house is asleep, the phone is silent, and the day has not yet asked anything of you.
Brahma Muhurta time today, tomorrow and in your location
There is no single Brahma Muhurta time. It moves with the sun, so today's timing in Delhi differs from today's timing in New York, and tomorrow's is a little different again. "About 4 am" is only a rough guess.
This Brahma Muhurta calculator takes the sunset and sunrise for your city, divides the night into 15 equal muhurtas, and shows you the second-last one. Pick your city, or use your location for the time where you are. You will see the next Brahma Muhurta and the seven mornings after it, and you can add them to your calendar.
A simple Brahma Muhurta practice
- Go to bed earlier, rather than sleeping less.
- On waking, look at your open hands and say the Karagre Vasate mantra.
- Sit up, and listen to one mantra. Five minutes is enough.
- Come back tomorrow. A small practice you keep is worth more than a long one you leave.
